If I ran the 2019 Academy Awards...

Not exactly my predictions, but if I was the sole voter in the Academy Awards, this is how they would turn out:

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE –

Christian Bale, VICE

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE –

Adam Driver, BLACKKKLANSMAN

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE –

Yalitza Aparacio, ROMA

While I think either Glenn Close or Lady Gaga will win, Yalitza Aparicio’s performance was both understated and beautiful.

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE –

Amy Adams, VICE

ANIMATED FEATURE –

I have seen none of these except for half of Isle of Dogs on an airplane, but I am going to go with Incredibles 2.

CINEMATOGRAPHY –

ROMA, Alfonso Cuarón

COSTUME DESIGN –

THE FAVOURITE, Sandy Powell

DIRECTING –

THE FAVOURITE, Yorgos Lanthimos

DOCUMENTARY FEATURE –

FREE SOLO, Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, Jimmy Chin, Evan Hayes, and Shannon Dill

We could also just give it Best Picture…

FILM EDITING -

THE FAVOURITE, Yorgos Mavropsaridis

The bunnies at the end? I love this movie.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE –

CAPERNAUM, Nadine Labaki

(I’m not going with “Roma” as I am hoping it wins best picture and I want the wealth to be shared).

MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING –

VICE, Greg Cannom, Kate Biscoe, and Patricia Dehaney

MUSIC (ORIGINAL SCORE) –

BLACKKKLANSMAN, Terrence Blanchard

This score was so unexpectedly good. Listen to the last song on the soundtrack – Blut und Boden. Amazing!

MUSIC (ORIGINAL SONG) –

Shallow, A STAR IS BORN

BEST PICTURE –

ROMA, Gabriela Rodríguez and Alfonso Cuarón

SHORT FILM (ANIMATED) –

BAO, Domee Shi and Becky Neiman-Cobb

I cry every time I watch this. Pixar cannot make a bad short.

SHORT FILM (LIVE ACTION) –

FAUVE, Jeremy Comte and Maria Gracia Turgeon

It may ruin your day, but it is an outstanding film.

SOUND EDITING –

ROMA, Sergio Díaz and Skip Lievsay

SOUND MIXING –

ROMA, Skip Lievsay, Craig Henighan, and José Antonio García

VISUAL EFFECTS –

I’ll just go with Gravity (2013).

WRITING (ADAPTED SCREENPLAY) –

BLACKKKLANSMAN, Charlie Wachtel, David Rabinowitz, Kevin Willmott, and Spike Lee

WRITING (ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY) –

THE FAVOURITE, Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara

The end. Agree or disagree, I would love to hear your thoughts!
