SUMMER MOVIE BIBLE.

And on the seventh day God created movie theaters. It is 300 degrees in Houston and I vote we all beat the heat by arming ourselves in the crusade against Netflix and hippity hopping on over to the nearest movie theater.

Let’s get to it.

Rocketman – Out Now

I have yet to see this myself and I have heard mixed reviews. It seems a bit narcissistic to produce a movie about yourself, an impossible feat without sugar coating your shortcomings, but I am sure that it will be a fun movie to watch.

The Dead Don’t Die – Out Now

Yes, yes, this movie has gotten mixed reviews and might not turn out to be the Jim Jarmusch zombie comedy I had hoped for, but I am not giving up! I think it will still be worth a watch. Adam Driver and Bill Murray together…I think it would be hard to mess that up.

Dark Phoenix – Out Now

I am looking forward to seeing what Sansa Stark has in store for us after becoming Queen in the North. Although I will probably be confused seeing as I have never seen an X-Men movie.

Toy Story 4 – June 21

I never wanted “Toy Story 4” to be a thing (it ended so perfectly!) but I am curious to see where Pixar is going to take it. Maybe I’ll stop by the theater on a day I really feel like crying.

Yesterday – June 28

Of all the films in the onslaught of musical movies flooding our screens, “Yesterday” is the one I am the most excited for. A unique and funny story with great music? I’m down. AND its written by Richard Curtis of “Love Actually” and “Notting Hill.” Call me a hopeless romantic, but that is a writer I can trust.

Spiderman: Far From Home – July 2

Man, Marvel is a conveyor belt. They really have the formula down to a T. I wonder if Spiderman will win this time? Hmm. Well, I am curious to see Peter Parker’s mindset after the death of our Lord and savior Tony Stark.

Midsommar – July 3

I am excited to see what Ari Aster does post “Hereditary.” Even though I probably won’t see it. I hate horror movies.

Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood – July 26

Quentin Tarantino plus Brad Pitt plus Leonardo DiCaprio plus Manson Murders? Sign me up.

Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark – August 9

Normally this would not be my jam! I hated these books as a kid. It seemed like every elementary school classroom had a copy tucked away in their shelves! “Harold,” the story about the scarecrow, keeps me up at night to this day! And he’s right there on the poster. Scary. But I am curious to see what Guillermo del Toro and André Øvredal have to make of it, and out of “The Summer of Horror” this and “Midsommar” seem to be the best bet.
